Please note, after fitment of new AE 1 alternator rotor shaft on MV Orissa on 3rd Aug 2010, the engine was tried out. It was observed that the voltage generated was only 415V instead of 440V.
We tried increasing the voltage by adjusting the potentiometer for voltage, without any improvement. Tried to adjust the potentiometers on the AVR PCB to rectify the problem but the problem persisted.
Just to avoid the possibility of AVR PCB being faulty, we renewed this PCB. After trying out the engine the voltage generated was 435V. At this point the AE1 was put in parallel with AE2, with individual load of around 110KW on each gerator. It was observed that when load on AE 1 was increased, there was a drop in the voltage of AE1 and when we tried to put the full load of 220KW on AE1 it tripped causing a black out. The voltage kept on decreasing when load was increased on this generator. The problem seems to be drop in voltage as the load is increased.
The above stated facts can be verified with the technicians who had come to commission the new rotor.
