It is a commonplace among moralists that you cannot get happiness by pursuing it. This is only true if you pursue it unwisely. Gamblers at Monte Carlo are pursuing money, and most of them lose it instead, but there are other ways of pursuing money, which often succeed. So it is with happiness. If you pursue it by means of drink, you are forgetting the hang-over. Epicurus pursued it by living only in congenial society and eating only dry bread, supplemented by a little cheese on feast days. All of these things will bring you happiness and happiness is always around you.

Happiness is not the same as money. It is a feeling in your heart. When you are poor, you can say you are very happy, because you have something else that can't be bought with money. When you meet with difficulties, you can say loudly you are very happy, because you have more opportunities to challenge yourself. So you cannot say you are poor and you have bad luck. As the saying goes, life is like a revolving door; whenever it closes, it also opens. If you take every chance you get, you can become a happy and lucky person.
