不能用过去时，这个只能用现在完成时。表达的时间是从过去几年开始一直到现在。现在完成时结构：have/has+过去分词.

例：1.They have made rapid progress in the past few years.

是，already ,yet , since , so far(到目前为止) up to now(到目前为止) recently. in the past /last years在过去的几年中it is the first/second....time sb +现在完成时如，it is my first time i have been here.

不可以，只能用于现在完成时，是语法规定。
They have made rapid progress in the past few years.
在过去的几年里他们取得了快速的进步。
