in which the hero had only a limited and specified time to live 是定语从句，修饰stories，介词in 原来是在live 后面。如果放在后面，前面的which 由于是in的宾语，所以可以省去，也可换成that。但是，in调到前面时，which 不可省略，也不换 that。追答谢谢采纳
