① 从一般意义上而言， bowel和intestine相同，intestine是The portion of the alimentary canal extending from the stomach to the anus and, in humans and other mammals, consisting of two segments, the small intestine and the large intestine. 即包括大小肠；而bowel ＝The intestine；
② 但bowel也特指A part or division of the intestine，即肠的一部分，而且解剖上特指是esp the large intestine in man，即人类的大肠。
③ 除了生理意思， intestine还有internal，或civil的意思，即内部事务的含义；而bowel则是he interior of something，物体的内部； intestine趋于抽象事物，而bowel则偏于具体的事物。

Intestine 指肠道，小肠大肠都是用这个表示，而bowel一般用于和排泄物相关bowel function 特指排便功能，move ones bowel 也是类似的，有时也可通用
