1，因为句子要说的是cover，封面是红色的，而丢了的是书，不是封面。但句子把 the book放到最前面了，所以后面要用whose。也可以用which，但要变成：The book, of which the cover is red, is lost。 2，这句话可以用which，但要变成：The house in which I lived (which I lived in) ten years ago has been pulled down。
不讲语法，只从简单方面来说，英文表达具有方向性。which代表了一个东东。属于这个东东的，要 of which，在这个东东里面的，要用 in which，在外面的，要out of which，在上面就是above which或者on which。你要看原来句子到底想要表达的是什么方向性。例子1，句子是说红色封面的书丢了。封面是书的，要of which。因为 of which 等于 whose （可以指人可以指物），所以原句子没错。例子2，屋子你是要住进去的。而where已经包括了方向性了（where 包括了全方位），当你用which的时候，就缺少了一个方向，所以要加 in。

因为书的封面是红色的而且whose后是一个名词如果是which就不对了。第二个的where相当于in which就是说正确顺序是lived in zhe house 而这个房子has been pulled down ten years ago。

1.whose为关系形容词，which为关系代词。

2.The house where I lived ten years ago has been pulled down.

The house in which I lived ten years ago has been pulled down.

注意是live in the house

1.whose cover是...的封面，which没有这个意思

2.如果lived 后面有 in 就用which
