what是什么的意思, where是什么地方的意思.
例如 Where is your mother? 就是你妈妈在哪里, what are you doing就是你在干什么

where were you just now ? 对地点提问用where,
对宾语或动词提问, 只要是问做什么,就用what.
如：she's watching tv now .
(对watching tv 做提问) what is she doing now ?
(对tv 做提问)what is she watching now ?
又如： he works in the hospital .
(对in the hospital 做提问) where does he work ?
(对 works 做提问)what does he do in the hospital ?
