When I was about 12, I had an enemy, a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings. Sometimes she said I was thin. Sometimes she said I was lazy. Sometimes she said I wasn’t a good student. Sometimes she said I talked too much, and so on. I tried to put up with(忍受) her as long as I could. At last, I became very angry. I ran to my father with tears in my eyes.
He listened to me quietly, and then he asked, “Are the things she said true or not? Mary, didn’t you ever wonder what you’re really like? Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said.” I did as he told me and to my surprise, I discovered that about half the things were true.
I brought the list back to my dad. He refused to take it. “That’s just for you,” he said. “You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. When something said about you is true, you’ll find it will be helpful to you. Don’t shut your ears. Listen to them all, but hear the truth and do what you think is right.”

海南是以旅游和农业为主的省份，而真正靠旅游发展的市县只是少数，大部分市县主要靠的还是农业。三农（农业，农村，农民）问题一直是困扰中国政府的一大难问题，海南也不例外。目前海南农村的主要产业还是很原始很单一，以养猪，种植水稻，种植甘蔗，为主。少部份人以渔业捕捞，海水养殖，淡水养殖，种植橡胶，种植果树，种菜为业。目前海南农村贫穷的根本原因，主要有以下几方面：
一，利润太低，投入产出不成正比。
1。种植水稻，每户人家有10亩水田，以目前的海南的产量，每亩产400公斤稻谷，每公斤2元，种一季水稻收入8000元，一般一年种两季，收入16000元，但除去化肥农药种子等6000元，每年纯收只有10000元。
2。种植甘蔗，每户人家有10亩大田，3-4亩大田（旱田）产10吨，每吨260元，一年只能种一季，那么一年收30吨7800元，但除去人工化肥农药3000元，利润4800元。
3。养猪，利润30%，一家人养一条猪要投入700元，养了5-6个月卖1000元。一般一农户一年能有本钱投入支养5条猪算不错了，一年利润1500元。
以上是海南大部分农民一家一年的收入，人民币16300元，其中，一家人吃饭和人情钱（份子钱）占去花销的大部分，一年到头所剩无几。
二，不够勤劳。很多农村人不种菜，海南是农业省，但80%的菜还得从外省购进。说到外出务工，广西的农村现在的房子很漂亮，他们的农民们很多都是两夫妻结伴外出务工，一年存2-4万，几年后回家盖新房，再出来，几年后就有本钱做其它事情了。泥水匠一天的工钱大工150元，小工100元，老公做大工，老婆做小工，一个月的收入不少。但现在海南的农民有多少个愿意做泥水匠呢。
三，原始单一的农业模式制约了农民的发展。在很多省份，农业机械化在90年代未已经开始，目前很多省份已经不用耕牛种地了，而且播种，施肥，除草，收割等也机械化了。但海南还是以人工和耕牛种地为主。还有就是很多地方通过再一次分田地，将土地成片的承包给农户，达到大规模耕作，方便机械操作，而海南农民的田地还是东一小片西一小片的，既浪费土地资源，又妨碍了机械的操作。
本人觉得以上是农村贫穷的根本原因。而本人觉得要使农民脱贫致富，主要有以下办法：
一。是最根本的，就是要勤劳。无论做什么，勤劳一定致富。
二。按目前状况，外出务工是比较好比较快的致富路子。
三。将农村里的土地进行再承包，分成大片，一户一片，适合种水稻的种水稻，适合种果树的种果树，这样就可以大规模集约化生产。因为有的农户已经不种地了，因为东一小片西一小片，很难再承包出去，如果是大片，就会很好再承包。
四。无论做什么，都要大规模大投入，养一条猪赚300元，那一年就要养100条以上。种水稻，就要种30亩以上。
