On the Iraq­Syria border，a pack of wild dogs circled American soldiers for food．The leader of the pack was a gray­and­white dog．The soldiers called him Nubs．Nubs was shaking and 36 able to stand．Marine major Brian Dennis looked closer and saw that there was a knife wound 37 his chest．
