assort 就只是动词，侧重"把..分类" to arrange or distrubute into groups ;

sort 可做名词［countable]：
a group or class of people, things etc that have similar qualities or features [此时相当于 type, kind]
也可做动词
to put things in a particular order or arrange them in groups according to size, type etc.
它在英语口语中还有个特殊用法，表 to deal with a situation so that all the problems are solved and everything is organized，
