‘Dead Poets Society’ is not only a wonderful film with an inspiring story, great performances from the actors and terrific sceneries, but also a lesson of life which gives us many inspirations and move. It’s a famous and popular film which achieves great success!
When it comes to the success of the film, there are several roles that we must talk about. Who are they? First of all, I think Mr. Keating (played by Robin William) is one of the most important. His roles are always full of inspiration, passion, courage, and humor that never fail to move an audience. As an English teacher in a stern, conservative school, he tries to inspire the students to make their dreams come true and to make their lives extraordinary which is not easy. As to his teaching methods, they are quite unusual and innovative when compared with other common English teachers because Mr. Keating shows us that we have to come out of ourselves and make the best of our lives. For example, in one of his classes, he stood on the desk on the platform and called them to stand on like him to look at things in different way! When Mr. Keating was standing on the desk, he said ’Strive to find your own voice ’ which means he hopes every students should learn to be independent of their thinking, and dare to express their own opinion so that they could live their lives extraordinary.
Another role that I want to emphasize is Neil Perry. He was a victim of the stern and conservative education. He chose to suicide himself mainly because his overbearing and unpleasant father didn’t let him do what he wants and controlled all of his life and future. In fact, he was exceedingly fond of acting plays. How can we know that? The answer is just several conversations between Neil and his classmate Todd. He was so excited that he ran around the room. He said to Todd that play was all he really wanted to do then inside of him. From what he said, what he did and his excited expression, we can safely draw the conclusion that what’s Neil’s dream was to be an actor.
As we all know, unfortunately, Neil didn’t realize his dream and Mr. Keating was fired. A sad ending of the film may give us more thinking about our own lives in the future!
