And due to the difference of linguistic properties and culture, the complete equivalent translation has been proved impossible, therefore this thesis proposes that only relevance theory can be of a help. Since relevance theory is recognized by cognition and communication, and if a translator wants to conununicate with the target language audience successfully, with a lot of factors considered (such as context, contextual effects, cognitive assumptions and so on), then a translator finally wants to achieve optimal relevance between the translated texts or discourses and target language audience, which is also one of aims of translation.

书本和口语翻译需要得到母语读者的认可和理解.由于双语性质和文化的不同,完全对等的翻译被证明是不可能出现的.因此本论文提出,只有相关理论（relevance theory）可以支持.相关理论在认知和交流方面有独到见解,如果翻译人员能够与他的目标听众达到有效交流,很多因素将被考虑在内,如翻译内容,上下文语境,认知前提等等.所以,一个翻译者将把翻译结果与听众形成最优契合作为他的目标,这也是翻译活动的目标之一.
