Hayley Korman, a 15 year- old girl from California, US stayed calm. She did something different. Her mobile phone didnt work one day, so she decided to try and live without it. She took a six-week summer trip with some friends.
Hayley and ten other teenagers rode their bikes 4,800 km across the United States. With two college students as guides, they started on June 23. They traveled through small towns in the south, crossed rivers and climbed mountains. They had camps in the mountains.
"Its not easy to find a comfortable place to sleep. It was too hot in the south," Hayley said. And mosquitoes (蚊子) were around them all the time when sleeping outside.
Although there were such difficulties, no one left the team. "Everybody was super hard-working and did everything for the group," Hayley said. "We learned how to live with other people and keep a positive attitude (态度)."
They sent postcards and letters to their parents to tell them how it was going. They had to shop for food by themselves. They shared responsibilities (责任) and looked after each other.
From these things, they not only trained themselves, but also opened their eyes. "Southern people are really nice," Hayley said. "Small communities (社区) were so nice. Its how the rest of the country lives. Its a new world."
