VOA SPECIAL ENGLISH is a program that talks about agriculture, life, science, etc. It is relatively simple. While VOA Standard English report news in the normal speed. VOA Special English is for beginners. VOA Standard English includes VOA News Now.
Actually, i don't think self-teach will be much effective, So i suggest you go to some websites with someone to guide you, such as en101.
