中西方的教育观念差距太大了，在中国人眼里，孩子就是宝贝，小的时候怕生病，怕热怕冷。长大一些就是想尽一切办法让孩子能上名校，接受好的教育，再大一些就是操心上大学，大学毕业后还要操心工作，直到娶妻生子，接着还要照看下一代！而西方人注重从小培养孩子独立、自立的生活，等孩子到一岁半的时候就能够自己吃饭，上大学的时候就能够完全脱离父母而独立生活！美国家长把孩子当做跟自己平等的人，尊重孩子个人的意愿。
举个例子来说吧：家长1.对走路摔倒的孩子

教育会出现如此大的差异，我想，最根本的原因还是在于两者不同的文化。西方国家从18世纪中叶开始经历了一场轰轰烈烈的思想启蒙运动以及随之而来的资产阶级民主革命。这就是以卢梭、孟德斯鸠、伏尔泰等思想家所提倡的反封建民主思想切实保障了人的独立智慧创造自由，尊重人的独立个性，在西方广大民众中的广泛传播，从那时起到现在，已经过去了200多年，这些民主思想可以说已经在西方深入人心。因此西方的文化更偏向一种个人主义的。在个人主义的状况下，每个人都要求有自己的权利，要表达自己内在的东西，要有自己的个性，每一个人都是unique，所以就鼓励每一个孩子有自我，要assertive，要果断。你可以promote你自己，就是每个人有每个人的特色，在这样的环境中讲究的就是emphasize competition，鼓励每个人要有一个很好的发展，要自己主动去表现，要怎么突破现状。因此，西方人对孩子的要求非常宽容，他们从不对孩子规定必须做什么，更不对孩子进行与他人比较，而是针对孩子自身作正面引导，重视孩子自身的兴趣和个性发展。概括地说西方人比较重视儿童自我意识的自然发展，鼓励儿童自由且自然地表达自己的思想与情感，力图试使儿童通过自身的体验和经历发现自己的存在和认识与开发自己的能力。

中国的历史进程是依靠组成群体的国家的力量，人不过是国家的一个组成部分，主要是生活在一个以群体为中心的社会里，中国人必须从小就学会如何使自己的行为服从群体的需要，否则将很难适应社会，个体服从集体，集体利益高于个人利益，个人只有把自己放在集体中诠释自我，求证自我。因此在中国文化中，中国人更多强调的是整体，突出集体利益，个人不能脱离群体，甚至个人太出众而独立于群体都会遭到人为的打击。因此，中国儿童从小就被要求要与他人保持一致，体现得最明显就是学生什么事情都要按照老师的要求去做，你和别人要是有什么意见的话也不要表达出来，宁可息事宁人，大事化小，小事化无，不要去生气，你要注重长幼尊卑，因为中国人讲长幼有序的观念，要非常尊重老人，非常尊重父母，非常谦虚，不能自满，不能锋芒毕露，会树大召风，要会收敛。因此中国儿童被认为是被动的、富有可塑性的，必须经成人的帮助才知道去发现社会的存在和社会的要求，于是经常就使用比较成绩，排名次等方法来不断引导孩子了解自己的位置和调整自己的行为，以期成为社会中与大多数人一样的居民。individualism和collectivism里的差别就是这样的明显。
如此看来，中西教育有差异是必然，因为不同的文化必定会导致不同的教育理念，而不同的教育理念也影响乐孩子不同的发展。但是总体说来中国教育和西方教育各有优劣，笔者只是想让教育世界化，各自取长补短，共同发展。

Why there are so big differences betwwen China and western world education, I believe it lies in the cultural differences between the two. They emphasize competition under such circumastance and encourage every one to develop himself, to express himself actively, to break through present suituation. So the western people are quite easily with their children, and they never make a regulation for their children, not comparing their children with others, but conduct them in a right way accoording to their own situations. They concentraten on the children’s “ likes” and personal development. In a summary, they emphasis on the development of their children’s own consicenceness and encourage the children to express their thoughts and feelings freedomly and naturally, try to make the children to discover their ontology, the ability of recognizing and developing themselfves through their own experiences.
The process of Chinese history had relyed on the power consisted by publicity, with a person is only a part of a country. It is becaouse we live in a society centreing publicity that we have been brought up to be taught to learn to adapt ourselves to the needs of a publicity, or we have a hard time adapting ourselves to the society. An individual person has to listen to a collectivity group, the interest of a collectivity group is higher than an indivicual person. One can only express himself and verrifying himself by putting himself in a publicity. In Chinese culture, we emphasis on a unity, and make the interest of a collectivity group outstand, and one can not apart from a integrality, even one that is too outstanding and is independent from a group can be blowed by people. So we children are told to keep abreast with others, among which one most obvious thing is we have to do what teachers ask us to, we can not express a different opinion when we really have. We would rather grind big things into small even into nothing than we would get angry about something. We have to notice that we must respect the old because we have a concept of order, we must respect the old, our parents, and we must be very modest, we can’t be so pretentious and outstanding, which we have to believe it will cause troubles. So we need to learn to restrain ourselves. So Chinese children are regarded as pessive and castable, and we can only know the existence of society and the demands under help from adults, so we usually take scores as comparison as well as the rate to let the children know their position and adjust their behaviour, and to become a person as most people in the society reasulting in such so apperant differences between individualism and collectivism.
From this point of view, it is a necessary thing that there are differences between Chinese education and western education because different cultures can definitely lead to different educational ideology, which can affect children’s development. As a whole, there are both advantages and disadvantages in Chinese education and western education. Here I just suggest education be global and they shoud learn from each other to boost common development.
